Challenges

Our Client, Biotech CRO, known for driving innovation in research and development, required a scalable and secure LIMS & ELN software platform to unify and optimise complex operational laboratory workflows.

The Client faced several operational bottlenecks that hindered their agility and efficiency:

  • Fragmented Data Management

Outdated lab system and manual processes created silos and inconsistencies.

  • Inefficient Documentation Handling

Version control, traceability and compliance were difficult to maintain.

  • Warehouse & User Management Inefficiencies

Key logistical and administrative tasks were time-consuming and error-prone.

  • Limited Visibility Across Processes

Lack of real-time insights affected decision-making.

These challenges posed significant risks to productivity and compliance in their daily operations.

Objectives

The project aimed to design and deliver a unified software platform that would:

  • Consolidate multiple operational domains into a single interface
  • Support rapid deployment of new features as needs evolve
  • Ensure high usability for various User roles (scientists, operators, admins)
  • Scale with the company's growth and adapt to regulatory changes
  • Enable seamless Document versioning and Audit trails

Our Approach

Discovery & Planning

We began with an in-depth discovery phase, including:

  • Stakeholder workshops
  • Workflow analysis
  • Competitor benchmarking
  • Tech stack evaluation
  • Scope definition and POC prioritisation

Solution Design & Development

The solution was custom-built from the ground up using:

  • Frontend: React
  • Backend: Java & Spring Boot
  • Infrastructure: Docker & AWS Services

Agile Execution

We followed Agile methodology with biweekly Sprints, demos and feedback loops. This gave the client visibility into progress and flexibility to refine requirements throughout development.

This ensured a cloud-native, modular architecture that could support:

  • Versioned Laboratory Documentation workflows
  • Complex Study creation and lifecycle management
  • Sample and Shipment registration, tracking, reservation and full traceability
  • Material registration, inventory tracking and usage control
  • Equipment scheduling and preventive maintenance
  • Many other modules and integrations, including internal Training management system, Printer integrations and in-app commenting and communication tools
  • Permission-based access control with role-level configuration
  • Comprehensive Audit History across all system actions
  • Customer and Contract management

The LIMS implementation had a transformative impact:

  • Stronger collaboration across operational and R&D teams
  • 100+ Users onboarded across departments
  • Increase in operational efficiency and improvement in data insights and accessibility
  • Faster turnaround on Lab Documentation and compliance tasks

The project delivered a fully integrated, scalable Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), precisely tailored to the unique needs of a biotech CRO. The result is more than just software – it's a foundational platform that now supports and accelerates their entire laboratory innovation pipeline.

Our collaboration continues through ongoing iterations, performance optimizations and the development of new modules to meet evolving needs.
